Septic Systems

All septic systems being installed or modified in Fayette County need to be permitted, installed by a Certified Septic Installer, approved and inspected by a Sanitarian from the Fayette County Health Department.

Permits and Fees

If you are planning to have a septic installed you will need to read the memo from our Sanitarian, fill out a Form SS-182A, complete a Septic System Precautions Acknowledgment and remit the $180.00 fee to the Fayette County Health Department.

Installing your own Onsite Septic System

While the Fayette County Health Department does highly recommend hiring a Certified Septic Installer, you may chose to install your own system. If you are interested in installing your own system, Fayette County Health Department offers a Self Installers Exam. It is a written exam that must be completed at the Health Department. You may use the Sewage Treatment and Collection Design Standards (ES-52) and the Sewer Systems, Sewage Treatment Systems and Sewage Tank Cleaners  (SS-178) booklets as study guides available f you are interested in installing your own system, Fayette County Health Department offers a Self Installers Exam. It is a written exam that must be completed at the Health Department.
